I risultati ottenuti con TTF (poi FLASH)
• La TESLA Test Facility (TTF) ha ampiamente raggiunto gli obiettivi iniziali della Collaborazione TESLA
– Nel 2004 è diventata “FEL User Facility” a pieno titolo, col nome FLASH• Fondamentale ruolo di “transizione” per la comunità degli utenti di luce di
sincrotrone di DESY verso le sorgenti di 4° generazione basate su FEL• Tempo fascio principalmente dedicato agli utenti
– Raggiunti i 6.5 nm di progetto nel 2007• TTF e FLASH, assieme alla R&D “trainata” dal Linear collider hanno
posto le basi per la realizzazione di XFEL

• Infrastruttura attuale di FLASH inadatta alle dimensioni XFEL• XFEL: 100 moduli, ciascuno con 8 cavità superconduttive
– A regime il ritmo di installazione nel tunnel è di 1/settimana• Produzione di cavità e criomoduli INDUSTRIA
– Produzione componenti “meccanici” e trattamenti chimici dai fornitori– Prove di accettazione a DESY
• Cryomodule Assembly Infrastructure LABORATORI– preparazione stringa di cavità in camera ultrapulita– assemblaggio dei criomoduli attorno alla stringa– logistica di supporto/stoccaggio subcomponenti e componenti– CEA/Saclay (F) sta costruendo la nuova infrastruttura,
• Accelerator Module Test Facility LABORATORI– ciascun modulo individualmente provato in condizioni criogeniche prima
dell’installazione del tunnel– DESY equipaggerà la AMTF
