fruito con continuità // a reasonable thermal inertia of the building
may be useful, if it is used continuously,
- l’involucro deve avere una bassa trasmittanza // the envelope
must have the minimum transmittance,
verticale esposta a Sud (nell’emisfero Nord) // the building must
be compact and the vertical surface exposed to the south (in the
northern hemisphere) must be maximized.
centrale, letti a nicchia nelle pareti.
In our cold, mountainous climates,Ispontaneous architecture offers the example of
the alpine baita , which uses the following criteria:
• A shape of the envelope that has a large façade to the south and reduced walls in
the other directions, especially towards the north, exploiting the slope of the
ground and extending the layers of the roof, in order to maximize the winter
solar gain and the protection against the cooling effect of the winds,
• containment of the losses by means of: small windows with shutters even inside,
use of buffer rooms (barn in the attic, stable and storage on the ground floor),
accumulation of firewood close to the outer walls, the reduced inclination of the
pitches allows the accumulation of snow which is also an insulating layer, low
transmittance walls: in stones in the lower part but in wood (interlocking logs)
in the upper part, with a cavity filled with earth and straw,
• recovery of energy from internal sources: metabolic heat of occupants and
animals of the stable (not isolated towards the inhabited area above), central
fireplace, niche beds in the walls (“fornici”).
