Striscioni, abiti colorati, odore di tabacco infilato nelle narici, musica: ecco come la “generazione perduta” si

ritrova in piazza, ansiosa di convincere chi sta a guardare che di perduto non c’è ancora niente, se non la pazienza. Questa volta l’occasione è arrivata il 14 Novembre, con lo sciopero nazionale contro la politica di taglio delle spese pubbliche, l’aumento delle tasse, contro i “regali” fatti allebanche dalle istituzioni euro-pee e nazionali, ma soprat-tutto contro una crisi che pian piano sta ospitando nelle testoline dei giovani italiani un sentimento di rassegnazio-ne verso un futuro incerto. Il disagio è palpabile, ma non riguarda solo gli abitanti della nostra cara penisola; questa volta la lotta si estende anche in alcuni paesi europei, dan-do una prova schiacciante che il problema di fondo non è il singolo politico seduto in poltrona, ma un sistema aggrap-pato a valori marci di ambizione, arricchimento e oppres-sione del più debole. I giovani scendono in piazza insieme agli insegnanti per opporsi a tutto questo e per salvaguardare un’istruzione pubblica avvelenata dai tagli e dal tasso di precarietà sem-pre più elevato dei docenti. Manifestano contro lo smantellamento della scuola pub-blica che venendo trascurata sempre di più li costringe ad iscrivere i propri figli alle scuole private, rendendo quindi la cultura accessibile solo ad un’èlite. Non chiedono altro che più rispetto per una generazione che sa di dover lottare parecchio per un futuro dignitoso ma soprattutto preten-dono che si investa maggiormente sulla loro formazione. Solo così, quando un domani spetterà a loro trascinare il nostro paese inginocchiato, saranno ben preparati per ri-sollevarlo con ideali di rispetto, onestà e equità sociale.

Il 23 ottobre, in occasione della

giornata mondiale delle Nazioni Uni-te, sono stati ospi-tati dalla scuola ‘Altiero Spinelli’ il sindaco Piero Fas-sino, i funzionari ONU Dario Arri-gotti e Jafar Javan, e l‘ambasciatore Franco Giordano.

Durante la conferenza è stato affrontato il tema della globalizzazione e sottolineata la necessità di collaborazione tra nazioni. L’incontro ha an-che dato la possibi-lità sia ai professori che agli studenti di dialogare con il sin-daco e di esprime-re le loro preoccupazioni su problemi sia locali che globali.

At the conference what really got the audience of students and teachers sitting on the edge of their seats was not the subject of the Uni-ted Nations, but were the questions which our school debaters directed to the mayor. These questions opened up a variety of subjects, which, didn’t always receive a particularly sa-tisfying response. The debaters wondered in what conditions we will possibly live and what air will be left for us to breathe, when many of the adults of our time don’t seem to (or don’t want to?) fully re-alize the consequences their actions will bring to our lives.

Un anno dopo.La Preside valuta il progetto della scuola.Come valuta dopo un anno da Preside il progetto dello Spinelli? E come pensa possa essere ulterior-mente migliorato?Io credo che il progetto della scuola sia già ottimo per molti motivi. Prima di tutto, la formulazione del curri-colo proposto agli allievi, che è molto ricca, articolata, interessante e stimolante dal punto di vista motivazio-nale. La programmazione è spesso individualizzata sulle capacità e gli obiettivi di ciascuno studente, grazie alle materie opzionali. Secondo, gli insegnanti sono molto coinvolti nel curricolo proposto di alto livello, sia per-ché hanno collaborato alla formazione del progetto, sia perché culturalmente molto propositivi sia nelle attività curricolari che in quelle opzionali, varie e adeguate agli interessi attuali della cultura e alla necessità di crescita educativa. Ulteriore aspetto è la composizio-ne dell’utenza di questa scuola: nuclei familiari attenti all’educazione dei propri figli e quindi consapevoli delle scelte che possono essere fatte per la costruzione del futuro degli stessi. Una scuola che ospita ragazzi di questo tipo non può che essere favorita nel proprio lavoro; persone, docenti dalla primaria al liceo, la cui ricerca culturale, preparazione professionale e curiosità verso gli argo-

menti di studio non possono che favorire l’applicazione al percorso disciplinare da par-te degli studenti.Quindi, perché il progetto dello Spinelli è ottimo? Per-ché favorisce la motivazione dei ragazzi e la sostanzia in

occasioni curricolari ed extracurricolari di pregio. Pen-so possa essere ulteriormente migliorato? Credo che questo possa avvenire grazie alle famiglie, che già han-no scelto questa scuola per il percorso progettuale, le attività opzionali e la presenza dei docenti madrelingua. L’osmosi che deve nascere tra scuola e famiglia, tra in-tenzioni educative, obiettivi scolastici, promozione di attività di crescita sociale, di relazioni e di cultura, non può che rafforzare un clima in cui l’essere a contatto con opportunità, anche a livello internazionale, sia adeguato alle esigenze che la società odierna indica. Un processo che si autoalimenta e che non può che favorire lo svilup-po della scuola e dei suoi allievi. Ha parlato prima dell’importanza delle famiglie. Come pensa di coinvolgerle maggiormente?Noi, per norma, non abbiamo il Consiglio di Istituto, che è quell’organo collegiale che riunisce in sé la componen-te docente, la componente genitoriale e gli studenti. È nostra intenzione costruire un gruppo di sostegno alla scuola e alla Preside, costituito dai rappresentanti di

classe dei genitori dei tre ordini di scuola, oltre ai rappresentanti degli studenti eletti nella consulta. Ho già incontrato tutti i rap-presentanti di classe e abbiamo deciso di in-dividuare quattro genitori per ogni ordine di scuola che faranno parte di questo gruppo di consulenza; ci riuniremo per confrontarci

su questioni generali e particolari della scuola. Questa è una novità per lo Spinelli ed è uno strumento importante su cui io faccio molto affidamento, poiché le opinioni e le proposte dei genitori non potranno che darci dei buoni suggerimenti e aiutarci in qualche iniziativa.

Colgo l’occasione per ringraziarvi della vostra simpatia e del rapporto che ho con voi studenti: nella scuola prima-ria, nella media e nel liceo mi sento parte della scuola e i momenti di contatto con i ragazzi mi fanno piacere, mi rallegrano e danno senso al mio lavoro.

Spinto dalla necessità di sensibilizzare i gio-vani torinesi sul tema delle Nazioni Unite, e particolarmente at-tratto dall’internazionalità della scuo-la europea, il sindaco di Torino ha scelto l’Altiero Spinelli come sede per la conferenza. Dalle elementari al li-ceo, gli studenti della scuola europea vengono preparati per affrontare il mondo ormai globalizzato attraver-so corsi internazionali di lingua cine-se, tedesca e francese. Il punto della scuola europea non è solo di formare dei semplici linguisti, ma degli adul-ti coscienti dei loro diritti e doveri in quanto cittadini del mondo.All’inizio della conferenza si è subito affermata l’ecletticità della scuola. I canti in cinese e in tedesco hanno sottolineato come gli studenti del li-ceo riescano a studiare in modo ori-

ginale e innovativo le lingue. Dopo i bambini delle elemen-tari hanno presentato al sinda-co uno Schultüte, spiegando che è un’usanza tedesca dare ai bambini questo sacchetto pieno di dolci e regali. Dopo la presentazione dell’istituto, il

microfono è passato al sindaco. Il di-scorso di Fassino era incentrato sul tema della globalizzazione. Secon-do il sindaco, la diversità del nostro mondo e il bisogno di tutelare i diritti di tutti gli esseri umani ha reso neces-sario la creazione di un organo che re-golamenti i rapporti fra i diversi stati, ergo la creazione dell’ONU. In seguito è stato presentato il ruolo considere-vole di Torino a livello mondiale. Il ca-poluogo del Piemonte è estremamen-te importante, perché sede di centri di formazione dei ‘quadri’ delle UN.Dopo la presentazione sulle Nazio-ni Unite, è stata data agli studenti la possibilità di porre delle domande agli ospiti. Particolarmente partecipi sono

stati i ragazzi del gruppo di dibattito. I temi affrontati in questa seconda metà dell’incontro sono stati svariati, non tutti annerenti all’Onu. Si è parla-to della disoccupazione dei giovani, del termovalorizzatore di Gerbido, della fuga dei cervelli. A tratti, la con-ferenza è diventata un vero e proprio dibattito tra il sindaco e gli studenti. Sfortunatamente, non c’è stato molto tempo per discutere su tutti i temi che i ragazzi volevano affrontare. Speria-mo che Fassino manterrà la promes-sa di tornare alla nostra scuola per parlarne con più calma. E quindi… alla prossima!

A brief guide to STUDYING BETTER

Do you spend hours crying over your school books? Do you often fail tests? Is it hard for you to concentrate in

class and at home? Here are a few useful tips that might help you improve your poor studying skills. ~ Take notes during the lesson. It keeps you from falling asleep and you’ll have less work to do when revising for the test. Remember, you don’t have to write everything that comes out of the teacher’s mouth, just make sure you get the essential points. Spider diagrams, bullet point lists, abbreviations and symbols are your best friends! Some people also take the time to neatly rewrite their notes be-cause it helps you secure the main ideas in your head. ~ Manage your time. Plan your studying hours, make sure your weekly time-table is balanced and you get enou-gh sleep. If you procrastinate you’ll end up having to do everything at the last minute, so do yourself a favour and study everyday, even if just for an hour. Late night studying is exhausting and a waste of time. ~ Sort out your priorities. When planning your study time, make sure you have a clear idea of the lenght and difficulty of each topic you need to study. This will help you understand what is more important and therefore what needs to be studied first, when you still have a high amount of mental energy. ~ Find a good place to study. It should possibly be quiet, distraction-free and well-lighted. Bed? Not a good idea

when you’re tired. Next to your computer? Why not, but consider downloading Letmework.zip especially if you’re addicted to YouTube, Facebook, 9gag, Tumblr … Also, make sure you get rid of all types of possible interruptions: cell phone, annoying little sister and so on. ~ Give yourself a break. Taking a quick break every 30-50 minutes of intense studying is important for your mental health. You don’t want to have a nervous breakdown that will make all your efforts to concentrate useless. Jump around, listen to a few songs and eat a light snack (“slow release” carbohydrates work best), it will help you perk up your mind and be ready for the following study session. ~ Revise with flashcards and/or a friend. Don’t just sit there and read your notes over and over again, you need to actually be doing something with them in order to le-arn the information. Rewriting the essentials on colorful flashcards is a good idea. After that, you might find it use-ful to go over them with a study-buddy and test eachother. However, if you’re studying subjects like mathematics and physics, memorizing the formulas won’t be enough so make sure you and you’re friend do a lot of excercises too. ~ Let these tips become habits. You’ll surely start facing tests in a less anxious manner and improving your re-sults. Good luck! But moslty you’ll have to work hard, because luck comes and goes but good studying skills stay!

ma è ancora in fase di prova cosicché i professori possano abituarsi lenta-mente, però il prossimo anno sarà obbligatorio.Un altro sito che sta prendendo piede in campo web-informatico è Spinelli@Home, un network ideato dal profes-sor Auci per favorire lo scambio di informazioni in ambito scolastico. Il network è stato creato appositamen-te per gli studenti all’estero, ma può essere utilizzato dagli alunni, dagli insegnanti e anche dai genitori. Tutti gli alunni sono automaticamente re-gistrati e possono usufruire del servi-zio attraverso l’account della propria classe. Per maggiori informazioni ri-volgersi al professor Auci.

Naturally these aren’t exactly sim-ple questions, but we were all hope-ful the mayor would surely have the answers. Unfortunately, he did not. Nonetheless he did give us some suggestions. When speaking about our likely jobless futures, despite leaving school and later on univer-sity with a promising mind, our ma-yor claimed it was crucial to learn as many languages as possible, the golden key to success. This is gre-at news, because it must obviously mean that for example I, knowing th-ree/four languages, am destined to have an excellent career leading me to prosperity. Except this statement of Fassino’s is incorrect, when not only bilingual but multilingual youth aren’t hired for jobs they would be able to contribute to greatly, as they are young, and therefore inexperien-ced. When presented with this, Fas-sino sort of shrugged and muttered that that’s the way it goes, some are lucky where-as some are not, and that he could do nau-ght about it.The second big subject discussed was that of the construction of an incinerator, The debaters queried

the necessity of this construction: the only thing that politicians seem to see is the benefit of burning trash and consequently bringing in bundles of money - the majority of which would go to them, though apparen-tly that’s not supposed to be mentioned. What was brought to light though was how they might as well be blind to the fact that this initiative will bring serious and con-crete physical consequences to fu-ture generations. With this, Fassino assured us repeatedly that first off, we didn’t really know what we were talking about, and second, that he-alth effects weren’t a definite risk. It’s clear that going ahead and doing something that isn’t a definite risk, but a possible risk all the same, is fine with him - as long as it isn’t bu-ilt anywhere near him, of course. We wouldn’t want him breathing any of that possibly cancer inducing air, no. Our mayor proceeded in closing the subject by underlining that the pe-

ople with specialist knowledge of these affairs weren’t there to aid him and feed him the correct data, therefore he couldn’t (wouldn’t?) speak of it

any longer. That said, the debate was over.During the whole conference the at-mosphere was bright and buzzing,

as exclamations and protests could be heard throughout the large room, uttered sotto voce to anyone close

by. The audience was filled with many people who generally didn’t give politics the time of day, but who, in that parti-

cular situation, found themselves ready to step up and fight for their future. Even someone as young as an elementary student wanted to be heard, intending to ask our mayor why his schools’ lunch was so unap-pealing and if he could do something about it ( for lack of time, he didn’t get the chance).What I saw in that conference wa-sn’t a room full of doomed futures; on the contrary, it was the formation of a metaphorical army, as not only students but also teachers realized that we have a voice and we have the ability to use it. One day the idea of a “lost genera-tion” will simply be words on paper. And that day keeps on getting closer.

E poi è impor-tante perché se si è ignoranti si è facilmente manovrabili e influenzabili, bisogna prendere coscienza della comunità e non essere indifferenti perché lo fac-ciamo per noi stessi, è per noi che manifestiamo. Invece a co-loro che non hanno il permesso di partecipare: mi dispiace ma non preoccupatevi, un giorno sarete maggiorenni e avrete la possibilità di agire!

Vado a manifestare?• Credo fermamente che si pos-sa cambiare la nostra società partecipando attivamente alle manifestazioni; il mondo non si cambia restando a casa a dor-mire, bisogna rimanere svegli con gli occhi aperti.• Sono consapevole di ciò che ci sta accadendo: quando c’è crisi l’ultima cosa da fare sono i tagli alle scuole.• Vogliamo far sentire la nostra voce e cambiare l’Italia, ovvio che se non viene nessuno e tut-ti dicono “tanto manifestare è inutile” il nostro sforzo è vano.• Credo sia importante combat-tere per il nostro futuro.

COLLEGIEN, ENNE n. Petit écolier étourdi, un peu fou-fou, très bruyant (il hurle du matin au soir), qui veut être le chou-chou des professeurs. Les collégiens forment souvent des petits troupeaux qui bouchent les couloirs et les escaliers en poussant d’étranges cris. Mal-gré ces caractéristiques peu enthousiasmantes, il s’agit de petits êtres sympathiques, so-laires, chaleureux, attachants et toujours joyeux.

ECOLE n. f. Organisation de torture pour jeunes garçons et jeunes filles, qui permet quand même de se retrouver entre co-pains, de s’amuser, de rigoler, de bavarder, de ragoter, et puis aussi d’apprendre des choses plus ou moins ennuyantes.

LIVRE n. m. Assemblage de feuilles colorées, dessinées, gribouillées, que les écoliers re-trouvent en grand nombre dans

leur cartable, provoquant de fortes douleurs aux épaules et au dos.

LYCEEN, ENNE n. Jeune garçon ou jeune fille du lycée, âgé généralement de 14 à 18 ans, boutonneux, qui sent la fumée de cigarette, drogué de télépho-ne portable, beauf’ (on voit leur culotte au-dessus de leur pan-talon…), bruyant, plein de pier-cings. Les lycéens, quand ils sont en groupe, font les malins et regardent de haut les petits collégiens.

PROFESSEUR, E n. Étrange individu, un peu fou, lunatique, au nom souvent bizarre, qui ne pense qu’à donner des devoirs, à interroger, à faire faire des contrôles, à écrire des obser-vations négatives sur le registre de classe. Quelquefois, le pro-fesseur peut être gentil, il peut faire rire avec des blagues un peu stupides, mais il s’agit d’une exception…

Many students of our school are now spread all over the world: U.S.A, Australia, New Zealand, China, Ha-waii, Canada, South America, Scandinavia, England and many other states.

Experiences abroad are months of lessons which school will never give

you…it is a life lesson. Traveling around the world could teach you much more than school could. Obviously, the world will never explain to you how to solve an equation, but it can teach you how respect people, traditions, religions, and it can show you some incredible places. I’m Massimo, I’m living in New Zealand, I chose to come here because I think that New Zealand and Australia are a “mix” of Oriental and Western culture, and they have a good economy and politics. I live in Queenstown. It is amaz-ing, from the window of my kitchen I can see the lake, the mountains, the snow, the town, an incredible sky. School is completely different, it is not totally true that it’s easier than in Italy. First of all it’s more similar to a university, there are no tests, just an exam every 3 months, no grades, just

credits given by exams and activities. You have to collect minimum 80 credits to pass the year, if you don’t, you pass the year but are downgraded a level. There are three levels, and you can finish high-school with a 1st level degree , 2nd level degree or 3rd level degree (you will never lose a year of your scolastic life). One of the main concepts I noticed is that here, life is “made” to be lived! Nobody cares if houses are not perfect or tidy! There are many rich people, but they don’t look

rich, because they use money for their enjoy-ment! To pay trips, outdoor activities, skiing and snowboarding, bungy, and stuff like that; I really appreciate it. Here it is really cold during winter, temperatures are around -5 to +5 degrees (in winter), and heaters are switched on only for a few hours a

day. Anyway I settled down really fast, now I don’t feel cold anymore (I will never feel cold anymore), I’m not having trouble with “nostalgia and depression”; I’m only happy to be here, I feel like I have always belonged to this place…next week I’m going to built a snow shelter and sleep in it! Enjoy your life...smile and learn from the world.

Von einer angebundenen Brücke bis ein elastisches Seil zu springen? Nein, Dank! Aber für wen die Herausfor-

derungen als der Österreicher Felix Baumgartner liebt, von einer Brücke zu springen, ist es, um von einer Treppe des Hauses zu springen.Am 14. Oktober nachdem eine Besteigung von 2 Stunden und 37 Minuten an Bord der speziellen Kapsel, die ihm zu

39.045 Metern gebracht hat, der Piloten von Red Bull Stra-tos hat die Luke geöffnet und nachdem die letzten Kontrol-len sich in freiem Fall geworfen hat.Nachdem wenige Sekunden hat Felix die Geschwindigkeit des Tons (1110 Km/h) überwunden, die 1342 Km/h errei-chend und so ein neues Rekord siegend. Nach anderen 4 Minuten und 19 Sekunden des freien Falles hat Felix den Fallschirm geöffnet, aber es werden sie andere 4 Minuten genommen, bevor es Erde berührte. In diesem Moment sein Personal un seine Familie, die ihm vom Zentrum Kontrolle Mission von Roswell in New Mexi-co nach gefolgt haben, von der Freude explodieren. Inzwi-schen wird Felix von einige technische und von den Ärzten mit dem Hubschrauber gereicht.Mit diesem unglaublichen Sprung geht Felix in die Ge-schichte als der erste Mann ein, um die Wand des Tons in freiem Fall überwunden zu haben.“Es war unglaublich! “ erklärt Felix in Pressekonferenz “Manchmal muss man wirklich oben gehen, um zu sehen, wie klein wir sind.” und nachher antwortet er, zu wen ihn fragt, wie fühlt man sich zu 39000-Meter-Höhe, “Wenn sie dort auf Spitze der Welt stehen, wurden sie bescheidener: die einzige Sache, die Sie wollen, soll lebendig zurückkeh-ren.”

Many believe that a cataclysm will occur the 21st December 2012. On this day, the Mayan 144,000 days cycle will end.

Moreover, allegations that the ancient Sumerian population h a d discovered a planet (called Nibiru) that would hit the

Earth in 2012 have sown even more terror. However, Mayan calendars do not end once a cycle finishes. In this case, the 21st December will be the beginning of the 14th baktun (cycle). As far as the Nibiru claims, the imaginary planet was supposed to hit the Earth in 2003. The date was postpo-ned after the cataclysm did not occur. Most importantly, though, it is scien-tifically impossible for a planet to hit the Earth any time soon. Scientists would not only have been aware of the potential problem for over a deca- de, but by this time we would be able to cle- arly see a planet coming towards us with our naked e y e . Many ambiguous Internet images of something get- t i n g closer to Earth have been proven photographic farces. Others claim that a planetary alignment happening the day of the winter solstice might be calamitous. The alignment of the Sun, the Earth and the centre of the galaxy is a regular occur-rence. Many fear that in this particular case, the black hole in the middle of the Milky way will attract the Earth more than ever before. However, physi-cally speaking the gravitational p u l l of the S u n a n d moon af-

fect the Earth much more than the black hole. What might be a more realistic worry is that of a solar storm hap-pening. Every 11 years the Solar activity reaches a peak. The next flare is predicted to happen betwe-en 2012 and 2014. No great cala-

mity should happen, as the Earth’s atmosphere will be able to protect the Earth from electromagnetic radiation and energe- tic particles. However, during its ac- tivity the Sun might also

produce some electro-magnetic fluctuations

that might be very disrup-tive for our satellite systems.

The Earth will certainly not fall into pieces, yet precautions will

have to be taken, in particular as far as airplane, spacecraft and elec-

trical companies are concerned. It is improbable, however, that the storm will

happen this December. For centuries we have been fearing the end of the world. Yet, what we are not realizing

is that it’s not the end of our planet that we have to fear. Looking around us we might no-tice some of the many depravities happening in the world. We might find out that what is really terrifying isn’t a future catastro-

phe, but the present reality.

‘Un affascinante viaggio attraverso la no-stra principale, straordinaria ricchezza:

il corpo umano’. È così che il sito del Palaiso-zaki descrive la mostra allestita al suo inter-no. La exhibition svela la bellezza di ciò che si nasconde sotto la nostra pelle. Da un lato estremamente interessante ed educativo, la mostra ci fa domandare se è moralmente ed eticamente corretto esibire così spudorata-mente dei cadaveri. La dissezione umana ha permesso di svelare i segreti del nostro corpo. Conoscere i meccanismi che ci permetto-no di vivere non è solo necessario per diventare medico o biologo. Artisti come Leonardo da Vinci e Michelangelo, studiando cadaveri umani, sono riusciti a rappresentare la perfezione del corpo umano. E forse un po’ tutti gli uomi-ni sentono il bisogno di conoscere meglio loro stessi.Tuttavia la pratica di dissezione è stata ed è ancora oggi considerata empia. Studiare una persona nei minimi detta-gli, scrutare le parti più intime e misteriose del suo corpo sembra un oltraggio alla per-sona defunta.Secondo alcuni la ‘Human Body exhibi-tion’ è uno spettacolo morboso che spoglia esseri umani della loro dignità. D’altronde, non c’è motivo di mettere i campioni in po-sizioni sorprendenti (un corpo dirige un orchestra, un al-tro gioca a tennis) se non per stupire. D’altra parte, non si

può nemmeno negare lo scopo educativo del-la mostra: tutte le guide sono specialisti nel campo della medicina. Il tour guide può aiu-tare a comprendere meglio come funziona il nostro corpo. Ma forse dei modelli di plastica avrebbero ottenuto lo stes-so risultato? Sì e no. Solo un corpo vero, con le sue imperfezioni e peculiarità, può farci veramente rimanere a bocca aperta

di fronte al capolavoro della Natura.‘Ma loro, chi erano?’ E’ fondamentale rispondere a que-sta domanda per giudicare se la mostra è stata organizzata nel rispetto dell’etica umana. Infatti si è sparsa voce che i cadaveri provenissero dalle prigioni della Cina, dove vige tuttora la pena di morte. Nonostante il sito assicuri che tutte le persone nell’esibizione sono morte per cause na-turali, non tutti i corpi sono stati donati volontariamen-te alla scienza. In Cina, per esempio, se nessuno reclama un cadavere, il governo lo può usare a scopi scientifici ed educativi. Perdippiù, nella sezione dedicata ai feti e agli embrioni, è possibile vedere un neonato sezionato, che di certo non ha mai dato il suo consenso per essere esposto

così, davanti a centinaia di visitatori.Decidere di andare o no alla mostra dipende molto dalla sensibilità della persona. È fon-damentale, però, che tutti i visitatori siano ben coscienti di cosa stiano andando a vede-re e di non banalizzare la morte, che è uno dei più grandi misteri umani.
