After their successful collaboration in Hong Kong in May, Gambero Rosso and Vinexpo join forces again to celebrate Italian wine culture in Asia. The Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri
World Tour takes off in Tokyo. The event is scheduled
for Wednesday, November 16 in the elegant Prince
Park Tower Hotel. The opening ceremony takes place
at 11am to launch the Japanese version of Vini d’Italia,
edited by the Kodansha group. A gala tasting will follow
from 12pm to 6pm, featuring the best of Italian wines
as chosen by Gambero Rosso: Tre Bicchieri winners.
No other Italian wine event has such a restrictive
selection filter, a guarantee of absolute quality.
On the same day, the curators of the Vini d’Italia guide
will conduct two seminars. One will offer top-level
technical insights into the special awards in the Vini
d’Italia 2017 guide, that is, the best wines chosen among
more than 40,000 samples tasted for this edition. The
second seminar will focus on the most popular wine
of the moment, Prosecco, in collaboration with the
Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC.

3 Japanese consumers have been showing an extraordinary interest in Italian culture. Among
the world’s cities, Tokyo is one that has shown the
most marked interest in Italian food and wine. That
sensibility is encouraged by excellent local Italian
restaurants. Fresh ingredients, simple cooking
methods and a focus on primary aromas and flavors
are elements fundamental to both Japanese and
Italian cuisine, and both offer an inexhaustible range
of pleasurable wine-food pairings. During the opening
ceremony, the best Italian restaurant in Japan
according to the digital guide Top Italian Restaurants
Around the World will be honored. The guide will be
released at the end of 2016.
Italian wine exports are enjoying an extraordinary
upward trend. They have grown over 500% over the
last 30 years. The Italian wine system is joining forces
to strengthen an image that has never before been so
powerful and well-positioned on a global level. Last
data on wine exports for the first five months of 2016
show a 1.3% increase in volume and another 3.7%
increase in value.

abouT Gambero rosso
Gambero Rosso, the most important multimedia brand in the Italian food and wine world, now celebrates its 30th year. In 1986, Gambero Rosso took its first steps as an insert
in a daily newspaper, but by the next year its first
Guida dei Vini went to print, the 1988 edition. After
that, dozens of guides and books followed. In 1999,
Gambero Rosso Channel, the first thematic television
channel in Europe, began broadcasting. Shortly after,
a constellation of the Città del Gusto sites was founded
in Italy, followed by Gambero Rosso Academy in
the rest of the world, with cooking classes for
professionals and amateurs, along with courses about
wine, journalism master programs, and seminars
on restaurant management. Recently, the company
was launched on the stock market. Meanwhile, a
fascination with Italy has been growing in the world,
a longing for its authentic products, and Gambero
Rosso events organized around the globe have
multiplied. Since the first ones in 1990, the number
of events on our international calendar has grown to
over 40. They are above all, but not only, dedicated to
wine, supported by the translations of the guide Vini
d’Italia. That volume is translated in German, English,
Chinese and Japanese.
abouT Vini d’iTalia 2017
As the thirtieth edition of its Vini d’Italia guide is being printed, the Gambero Rosso world tours begin. These events
represent thirty years of experience,
of great wines, of changes. In the first
edition, 32 Tre Bicchieri were selected
from 1,500 wines tasted. This year, 429
Tre Bicchieri have emerged from over
40,000 labels sampled. The Guide
has accompanied the renaissance of
Italian wine step by step, in an era extraordinarily rich
in transformational new approaches. During these
years, the foundations were laid for the international
affirmation of the Italian wine sector. Today, there is
a new generation of both producers and consumers
on the scene, while the arts of communication and
promotion have been revolutionized.
