LODGE TO HOST FRIDAY NIGHT FAMILY FUN, PASTA, CASINO NIGHTS -$10.00! ~ Save the Dates-6 PM
MARCH 11, APRIL 15. AND MAY 13! By popular demand the club will host 3 low cost events to promote family fun
and affordable evenings. The menu will be a simple dinner of pasta, meatballs or sausage, seasonal vegetables, salad, and
dessert. Since some will occur during Lent, a meatless option will be available. The evenings will also include a variety
of gaming options after dinner including poker, Belize Dice, Tombola, and others. The Bocce court will be open as well
as our Foosball and Pool tables. Join us for a night of fun and fellowship. Cash Bar, soft drinks included with dinner.
SEAFOOD DINNER SCHEDULED FOR MAY 21, 2016 ~ The club will revive our annual seafood dinner this year.
Our menu is in the planning stages and we are currently considering an antipasto, a soup course or mussels in sauce, shrimp
appetizer, pasta with seafood entree, a fish (cod or salmon currently being considered) entree, and dessert. Your suggestions
are welcome, talk to Mike Malvestuto, Vince Colasante, Josephine Scalora, or Tony Ciotola. With the price of seafood
these days our goal is to keep this affordable while still raising funds for the club.
BENEFIT FOR COOLEYS ANEMIA IN PLANNING STAGES ~ The club will host an event, the proceeds of which
will go to the OSIA Cooley’s Anemia Charity this year. We are considering dates in May or June for this and welcome
your input. We are considering perhaps a light dining and dancing evening at a local venue or an evening with similar
activities at our club. We welcome your suggestions and if you are interested in helping out for this event please call
Josephine Scalora or Tony Ciotola.
ART EXHIBITIONS AT CLUB EVENTS IN THE PLANNING STAGES ~ A number of our members are involved
in the art community and we have asked Kathy Pelosi to work with them and others to schedule a series of art exhibits at
the club. Those interested should contact Kathy for details. We hope to display the art as well as offer it for sale as part of
this effort. Right now we are recruiting exhibitors and will keep you posted on our progress. Any help or leads members
can provide would be a big help.
CLUB POOL TABLE FOR SALE ~ Our pool table is up for sale in order to let us better utilize our front room. The
table is sold as is, the price is $100.00/OBO, and the buyer is responsible for moving it. Interested parties should contact
any club officer. If a buyer does not come forward we plan to donate the table to a youth center.
FIRST GENERAL MEETING DINNER HAS EVERYONE HAPPY AS A CLAM ~Our new tradition of “guest chef”
and an earlier start time at our General Meeting began in February
with a delicious meal of Pasta with Clam Sauce, Garden Salad, and
Pannetone. Prepared by the “three sisters”, Paula Maiorano, Deb
Falkowski, and Cathy Chamberlin, whose meal was a great start to
our meeting. A group of about 30 members braved the snow forecast
to attend the meeting. Our next “guest chef” night will be hosted by
Pete Giorgi, Joseph Giorgi Jr., and Josephine Panariello. The next
meeting will be held on March 14th at 6:30 PM.

OPERADELAWARE
Verdi’s final opera plays for the first time at The Grand Opera House!
Verdi’s second comedy, written as he was approaching eighty years old, premiered in 1893 at La Scala. How is it that this
masterpiece has never been performed in The Grand? Perhaps because as delightful and fun as it is, it is fiendishly complex
and difficult to perform. Another masterful collaboration between librettist Arrigo Boito and Verdi, they used material
from Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor and Henry IV to create one of the greatest comic operas in history. Starring
Steven Condy as Sir John Falstaff, Victoria Cannizzo as Alice Ford, Sharin Apostolou as Nanetta and Ryan MacPherson
as Fenton. Maestro Giovanni Reggioli conducts and Dean Anthony directs.
PERFORMANCES: May 15, 2016 | 2:00p.m, and May 21, 2016 | 7:30p.m. Tickets range from $29 to $95.

Submitted for reprint by Ron Marcozzi Cara Dottoressa,
I am trying to get used to writing “2016” on my documents but I am forever astonished at how fast time flies by! It
seems like just yesterday my kids were small & I had no wrinkles. Now I am in my mid 60s and when I read the obituaries
I notice that people my age are a common feature. Yikes! Thankfully I feel good and still have a job I enjoy, which gives
me a steady income, but I certainly don’t want my life to speed by without me! I don’t want to wake up one morning when
it’s about to be over and realize it is too late to do the things I wanted to do. Is there a way to slow it all down?
Stop the Whirlwind
Dear SW,
Technically, the 24-hour-day formula is pretty non-negotiable, but if you make certain modifications to your lifestyle, in
the words of Seneca, the Roman Stoic philosopher, Life is long if you know how to use it.” Here is 4-point formula that
might help: 1. Live in the present. 2. Avoid getting distracted by daily trivia. 3. Make time for thoughtful reflection.
4. Have a life plan.
Seneca, in his essay “On the Shortness of Life,” mused about how idiotic it is to spend one’s days organizing and planning
for the future. Instead, focus only on making each moment the best it can be, so as to really interact with your life and not
just being a passive bystander. Seneca also wrote, “Putting things off is the biggest waste of life, for it snatches away each
day as it comes and denies us the present…” Put time aside each day to do something you love to do or have wanted to do.
Spending your time worrying about whether you will die prematurely or feeling regretful about not doing all you should
have done in the past is unnecessarily harsh self-punishment, as is fearing that the time you have left on earth will fly by.
The future is uncertain for all of us, which is why Seneca urges us to live “immediately.”
We are all guilty of engaging in endless daily “to-do” lists. We run around robotically completing the mundane tasks of
living. And, granted, there are a number of routines we must engage in for survival (e.g.: grocery shopping, etc.) However,
such activities should not become the reason for our existence. We need meaning. Seneca wrote, “Living is the least
important activity of the preoccupied man, and those who run around preoccupied find life to be very short.”
Everyone needs periods of reflection so that you can cognitively “register” each day‘s experience and that you’re
spending your time in line with your intention. Finally, try keeping a notebook in which you write out (and continue to
modify as needed your “Life Plan.” Often, the goals we set for ourselves end up looking more like a disjointed collage than
the interlocking parts of a puzzle, which when completed makes total sense. When I was a psychology professor one of the
exercises I would give my students was called a “Lifeline.” You draw a horizontal line that represents your life, putting a
X where you are now. To the left of the line you put an X to stand for each major experience that occurred up to the present
(e.g.: got a new sibling, started dance lessons, first date, marriage, etc.) then to the right, continue to put X’s to represent
you future goals. Your goals should be aligned with your passions, values and talent, no matter what your present age. It
is never to late to give your life new meaning and live each day to the fullest.
In ancient times people turned to philosophers to serve as examples of how to live and to their words to provide a
guideline on the specifics of living a quality life. They covered areas of friendship, emotions, physical health, finances, love
and spirituality. Examine your life as it is now and how you would like it to be in these fundamental areas and then set out
to close the gap. This will bring a greater awareness to each day; a necessary element for using your life well and
experiencing a “long life.”
